Our Purpose

La Casa is a family resource center located in the City of San Gabriel (a suburb of Los Angeles and the city with a MISSION) and services approximately 4500 clients per year, ranging from infants to the elderly. During its 51years of service, La Casa has and continues to serve its neighbors, primarily Hispanic and Native American working poor of the West San Gabriel Valley, in their efforts to overcome the barriers of underemployment, poverty, language, inadequate housing, limited education and lack of medical care.

As a resource, advocate and service provider, La Casa seeks to strengthen the development of individual and families who are then socially, educationally, and economically able to more fully participate in society and to enjoy a satisfied quality of life.

Programs and services of La Casa include a bilingual, bicultural (English-Spanish) nursery school, English classes, Spanish literacy, parenting classes in English and Spanish, computer classes for low-educational attain, adults, a woman's resource project, emergency assistance, domestic violence referrals, crisis intervention, immigration advocacy, employment referrals and resource and referral.

To expand service delivery, La Casa has formed coalitions with other service providers such as:

Kaiser Permanente San Gabriel Valley Medical Center Alhambra Hospital
Arthritis Foundation El Calvario Community Center, El Monte San Gabriel Unified School District
East Los Angeles
Rehabilitation Center
San Gabriel Coordinating Council Hispanic Bilingual Ministries
MAHEC Avance, Inc.

Volunteers are vitally involved in all aspects of La Casa's programs. The nursery school aides are all volunteers. All English as a Second Language and Spanish Literacy tutoring is done by bilingual seniors who have been trained t work adults who are of limited educational background. Volunteer attorneys provide legal clinics. Local contractors and construction works have renovated an unused gymnasium into a multi-purpose room which greatly enhances service delivery.

La Casa also houses; a Japanese school, Spanish Language Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-anon, Overeaters Anonymous and is headquarters for the Gabrielino/Tongva Tribal Council.

Through all these years La Casa has centralized many vital services at one easily accessible location but we need your help to continue to serve our community.
